I am all for electronic ignition. I don't keep points in anything. I don't have to adjust them, clean them, tune them or pull out the timing light. I check under the cap is I dive through water or hose the engine off. I have changed one cap, the wires 3 times and adjusted the timing 2 since I put the Accel in. I did timing once after the install and re-did the timing when I changed my timing chain.
My Accel point eliminator has worked flawless since I put it in. Except for the roller bearings and fully tunable advances the Mallory Unilite dizzys for our FEs uses the exact same module as the Accel. Prestolite owns Accel, Mallory, Lakewood, Mr Gasket and Hays.
I think the fact that two Dizzy companies are owned by the same company and they use the same parts says a lot for the company's proof to prove it works great.

Re: 50 MPH truck
As far as electronic ignition goes, use a Duraspark distributor to trigger an MSD 6-series box. Can't get much better than that.
I do not like any of the points-based distributor modules at all.

What do you think a Duraspark is? a points replacement module but with a big brain and bulky wiring harness, the original ones had a reluctor that fit over the cam and mounted to the points screws. On a standard points dizzy.

Re: 50 MPH truck
Was that the 1st Dura-Spark? I think an MSD box with points as the switch would probably work pretty well but like said the wear block will wear out eventually.
I like the Dura-spark distributor once I figured out. Sure it's a little more work to change the advance curve but not bad.
I think it is a very dependable distributor. The ignition box could use some updating though. I use a (dare I say it)
HEI 4 pin module to run mine and I hide it way down low on the inner fender so nobody sees it.
Works great. I messed up wiring in a Dura-spark set up when I out the 460 in my 71 and it burnt the resistor wire. THe 4 pin can run on 12v with no problem and can use about any coil. That is why I like it

Re: 50 MPH truck
Duraspark or the Accel points eliminator will run a MSD or Mallory Box.
i did mean the very first Duraspark Ford was really working the bugs out with Duraspark 1. They did not send any techs to electronic ignition school in Texas until the Duraspark II was getting ready to go in everything. I attended the first Duraspark Ii class in Corpus Christi, TX.
