.......and 390 connecting rods. That is the only difference between the two.

That was already mentioned...

You also need 390 pistons because 360 pistons have a different pin hight.

360 pistons have the same pin height as 390 4V car pistons(1.76"). The 390 2V(1.66")truck pistons have a different height.
I'm using 360 pistons in my 390 build and will have a compression ratio around 9.6:1. It is pretty confusing, isn't it.

Not really the .10 allowed the pistons to jump motors nicely and lower the compression for the trucks at the same time.

360 to 390 must haves are crank and rods, nice to have are pistons and cam. A Car cam from 67 or 68 will wake up a 390 but the 360 truck cam yawn.

today i found the donor crankshaft and new connecting rods. im debating the pistions. i dont plan on tearing back into the block but i dont want to spend it all at one place lol. i have a mild cam and 4barrel intake. ive had headders for awhile but thinking of returning back to stock manifolds.i have been told to run 428 heads but dont plan on running over 6,000 rpm's

It does not matter what car they came out of but what engine. Oh and if the Falcon you are referring to had a stock engine in it it was never a FE. They were born with the small six line and died with the 289/302/351W family.
