Carburetor

Post by McDays »

Well, I got one question for you all. Since I replace the transmission in my 71 with 302 engine from one three speed sticky to one C6 automatic I cannot make the engine run smooth. Somebody said that I should replace the carburetor because the A/T. Now when I crank it, anytime, it runs for a minute or so and dies. I already tried to do the adjustments at carburetor but I could not set the idle yet. I tought would be because it has the base under the carburetor and could have any leaking but here come the question. What if I do not use the base and just seat the carburetor at the intake manifold? Where should be the port to use for the vaccum to transmission and power brake booster?

the book does show different carbs for manual vs automatic transmissions. it sounds like you have a vaccum leak though. check the vacuum line going to the modulator to make sure its good.

The manual carb does not have the tranny vacuum port use the one under the front of the carb. As for where the base plate port is for PVC only on an FE there is a vacuum block on number 3 intake runner. I don't know where in a 302 but I imagine there is one somewhere.

You are right. I've used the port in the carb and now is fine. Thanks.
