water in intake manifold

Post by 1971ford »

I need some help, I'm a little #%*()# off right now :x
I have 10 days to get the '69 running, neighbors are complaining and the city code came by today :x It just has to run and be registered so i need the running part.

It is a 360, the one that had the destroyed valve seals that i took apart, the one with the 1 million mile main bearings...

I had rags stuffed in the holes of the 2v intake and i had a mat over the whole engine. I just pulled hte mat off and the rags out and there is about a 1/4" of water sitting inside the intake manifold! :cuss:

WTF do i do, how bad is it to have water in the intake? I guess the only way to get it out would be to pull the damn valve covers off, then the valve train, then the intake, and re-do it all again. not my day.

Since I couldn't care less about this engine right now since it's about to blow up anyways, can i soak the water out of the intake with some rags and such and run it? This 360 isn't even worth this trouble :x

Pull the plugs and crank it over a time or two.
Squirt some oil in the cylinders and crank it over some more .
Put the plugs back in and wait til the wind is blowing towards the whining neighbors house.
then start it up and watch it smoke. :2cents:

Sounds good. THere is no oil in it, so ill drain any water if there is any.
That reminds me that i need to put oil in it before i fire it lol

mine was the same way it had water in the intake that ran down into the open valves and was sitting in the cylinders it also leaked past the rings and got into the oil pan. i didnt have any oil in it either. lucky i think. the water came out when the weather thawed on those 2 days. by day three it was all gone. then i spun it over to blow the water out. i then used wd40 in the cylinders to dispate the water like it is suppose to do. it worked i guess.

Use a wet/dry vacuum. You have to assume that the water that you see is not the only water in the engine. Then follow cep62 and fordman's recipie for the rest. I'm looking for another '69 but you are a ways away from Northern Montana and the Alaska Highway on I-15 if you ever needed another home for it.
