Exhaust Manifold
Can somebody help me. I have to replace those studs in the manifold. What can I do to take them out because they are rusted. I tried heat and WD and it doesn't work.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
I have had very good luck with PB Blaster. Soak the studs down once or twice a day for 4 or 5 days. I would also try to tap on the ends (hard with the limited space) when I sprayed them. Then try to back them out at the end of the week. Not to helpful if it has to be done today..
I read a discussion here reference a tap removal and freon was mentioned. Here it is, http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =3&t=48002 . I am not sure if that is an option but someone may chime in with their experience..

Re: Exhaust Manifold
They make this stuff, not sure what its called but it is in a yellow and black bottle. It soaks into them and breaks away the rust. You can get it from true value or autozone.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
Get a oxy -acetylene torch (not propane).
Heat the manifold ear cherry red , then it should turn out.
Watch the stud to make sure it's not twisting off.
Some times you have to turn it back and forth a few times.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
Well with an FE it is pretty much manditory to use a torch and get it cherry red to get them out. I had a 40K exhaust manifold that the bolts broke off on so that tells ya you need a OA torch.

Drill 'em out and use bolts. Problem solved.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
heat the heat and not the stud. put two nuts on the stud when you try to turn them out. 1 nut will jamb against the other and make it like a bolt head. or use vise grips around the stud to trun it with. heat is the way to do it.

It's 302. I gave up for now. I'll try again when the summer comes. The only problem is because the thread is bad, after tight it still make some noise but thank you all for the advice.

You might try stacking some washers to get to some good threads.McDays wrote:The only problem is because the thread is bad, after tight it still make some noise but thank you all for the advice.
