hey can i use an oil pan out of an 1989 f150 302 for my 68?

well thats just it I don't know where the sump is on a 302 for that year span

If the 89 has a front sump and yours is a front sump then it will work. Which ever you go with it's always a good idea to measure where the pick-up screen is in relation to the bottom of the pan.

I know where it is on my oil pan that is on the engine an 89 has a rear sump pan and I dont know where the sump is front or rear for the 68-72s?

68-72 is a front sump pan.

I'm not sure but I figured they could interchange since there both 2wd half tons?

you could try swapping over everything and seeign if it would work. the major thing would be if the oil pump or only the pickup tube would swap over with the pan.

Like fordman said, the rear sump pan uses a rear sump oil pick up, the front sump uses a front sump pick up. The oil pumps may also be different. Some engines the oil pump is the same and just the pick up must be changed, other engines use an entirely different pump and pick up. You will have to research your 302 oil pumps for front and rear sump applications.

I have the pan and pump in it what I am trying to figure out is if it will clear the crossmember under the engine in the truck

i bet it will. since its a rear sump pan it should fit with no problems.except exhaust crossover pipes.

I have a rear sump 302 if your interested, you can use any pan, but get the screen for it.
