Take the bellows loose from the side vent, remove the glove box to access the cables and remove the 3 nuts, and it basically falls in the passenger floor... that is the way I remember it any way...

You've also got to un-hook the two defroster duct straps. Un-hook the wiring on the backside once you get it slid down a little. An oh...you might want to label the two cables from the heater controls somehow, (it makes it much easier when you put it back in).
That "bellows" DuckRyder is speaking of is held into the metal with 5 or 6 screws. Once you get the screws out you have to kind of wiggle it around to get it out of the truck.
Here's a crash course on my re-install:

You might want to be ready for some more work once you get it out... :(

be carefully unhookign the wires. i have had them break the resistor and or the switch backing. wiggle them off of what ever you take them off of. i think i now try to uplug them fromt he switch. they are easiert o replace later if they break. to get that boot off remvoe those rust colored clips and the boot will come off of the plastic vent thats bolted to the kick panel.

X2 on unhooking the wires from the switch instead of the fiberboard resistor on the back of the blower housing. Dont ask me how I know.

While you have this whole mess out, get a shop-vac and clean out inside the cowl while you can get to it.

If the foam packing has turned to dust you can get a kit from Bronco Graveyard that will keep it from rattling when you reinstall the core. I also had to buy a new bellows. I treated the surface rust with some rustmort to neutralize it....

Ok guys.. I got it out.. followed your directions. Thanks!!

Took out the glove box first then reached in and disconnected the defrost tubes.
Took the clips off the plenum and took off the three bolts and it dropped out easily.
Yes, the driver side heater tube is going to be tough to get back on... we'll see.
Look at all the leaves in there.

Fordman, I put a screwdriver between the connector and tab and gently, very slowly, lifted it away, first one side then the other... it came off, no problem.

Took pic of the cables. not too clear but it should help to reassemble.

Thanks for the input on foam and such

Another Question.

LMC lists two cores, one for AC and one without AC.. can you see which one I have.. I have AC but I don't know if it was factory installed..

Here is the assembly on bench... ready for dismantle.

that is the one without a/c. the other one is for factory a/c box. the box is a big suitcase lookign box. it is harder /heavier to get in and out.

Hey Ximy

I was wondering how much room there was between the heater core and the bottom of the heater box. I got one to a 1992 Ranger but its 8 x 6 and was wondering if it would squeeze in there. If you remember I was going to work on it today but it started to rain. I always choose the wrong time to work on my truck I took the heater carb spacer off the check it and it started raining

Highboy.. it is touching the case on both ends (on mine) My original core is 6 x 7-1/4
Not much wiggle room in the case. From the outside it seems like it would fit., but the plastic where the core sits in the housing is thick. You couldn't squeeze much more than 7-1/2 in there.
