360 Rebuild Progress
Painted the block Friday night. The crank and pistons are in.Saturday started the assemble.I got to tell you this has been nothing but a headache from the start.A motor with 8000 original miles had everthing from bent connecting rods to stripped crank shaft to played heads.Apparently since it was a brush truck They would leave it idleing for hours on end and that oblivously didn't do it any good!!!! Here are pictures

Re: 390 Rebuild Progress
idling for hours might have made it hot but that did not bend the rods and strip anything on the crank. I don't see any FE only having 8000 original miles. Bending rods is not easy.

Re: 390 Rebuild Progress
Well of course idleing didn't bend a connecting rod. My guess is it was a liquid in the cylinder situation. As for the crank they had a pump mounted on the front of the motor. The truck was bought new by the local fire department never register. So yes it had 8000 miles on it,but there is no telling how many hours are on it.

Re: 390 Rebuild Progress
That explains a lot if the pump was on a fire truck the air at a fire is some times so full of water that with out a oil bath filter the engine soaks the paper filter and then sucks small slugs into the engine. I watched a diesel do that in the Navy for about 9 hours before it broke. The crank mounted pump was spraying water towards the engine intake from a leaking shaft seal.
