Holley "metallurgy problems"

Post by HOWDY69 »

Holley is going to replace my carb. My date code (0336) matches a period of time in late 05 and early 06 when Holley was having "metallurgy problems." If you have a carb from this time period look inside your primary fuel bowl and see if the coating is turning to a gray "dust". This dust had clogged my accelerator pump nozzles and who knows what else.

Yes, it is alright. I mean you clean it out. Mine stopped after the first time it did it. But yea I know what your saying, because has done that. Good carb cleaner and a tooth brush. But once it's full of gas it usually doesn't come back. If you let it set for like 1 day, it will appear.

:hmm:

That really doesn't make sense. I *think* it says that you have to clean your carb every day with a tooth brush and carb cleaner but that isn't a problem... that can't be right though...

I decided this was a little too severe for a tooth brush and Holley agreed.

To me it says as long as JM kept it full of gas he has not had a problem but if he lets it sit without gas in it he has had a sinilar, but less severe, problem.

I had found a high performance body for 89 I was going to turn you onto but since holley is kicking in the carb it is a moot point.

O.K. I can see how you could get that out of it...

At any rate, if I had any problem similar and there was a possibility Holley would replace it I'd certainly be on the horn with them...

Glad they are taking care of you!

Exactly howdy, when your running it, I have no problem with it making a dust film substance. But If I let it sit for the shortest time, like maybe a week. it will form pretty quickly. I only had to clean it out once, when it sat for like 2 months. Other than that, it doesn't cause me much of a hastle.

It is an nitrogen hydrogen bonded base of Zinc alloy and the ethanol in our winter fuels breaks the hydrogen nitrogen bond which weakens the zinc to a point it becomes dust.

I little tip I picked up from US Navy Corrosion Control School that I taught.

It is on the front of the air horn (the stack with the choke plate in it) just below the list number.
