radiator mount

Post by 1982 flareside »

I bought a radiator from a junkyard it looks brand new for $50 :woohoo: but it come out of a F350 instead of mounting holes being on the back of the radiator it mount on the front flange and has like a bar that make the radiator sits closer to the engine. What i want to know does that bar that the radiator bolt to come off.

Those stand-offs are spotwelded to the radiator support, but you could drill out the spotwelds and remove them.

My uncle found away to not spend much money. Take the clips off and put longer bolts and put nut on each side of the flange it works good.

Well, it might now....until you get a lot of water in the radiator, which is going to more than double it's weight. Then with the bouncing and vibration that it's going to be subjected to during normal driving, it's going to rip out the mount, either at the radiator or the support.

Either get the correct radiator or the correct stand-offs to use with the junkyard radiator. Jury-rigging things together now to save a few bucks is going to cost you more in the future.

look under the floor mat befoire you think its rust free. i made that mistake. i looked under the cab and couldnt see any. when i got it home and got the nice floor mat out of it. the floor was rusted out inside the cab mount. where you couldn't see it until you pulled up the floor mat.
