352 firing order
Does anyone know what the firing order for a 352 is? I just got the truck home and it is missing badly. I think the PO may have screwed something up when he put in new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. He didn't seen to be the sharpest knife in the drawer.

re: 352 firing order
Maybe I should rephrase my question. How do I find out if he put the plug wires on the right plug? Is there a diagram somewhere on FORDification?

re: 352 firing order
That is exactly what I was looking for. I will check it out in the morning. I want to make sure the motor works before I pull it.

Re: 352 firing order
Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but since it's of a similar nature, I figured why start a new one?
I'm needing to consult this, but I swear this is different from what it shows in my factory literature (book 2). The firing order is right, but the numbers on the distributer are different... I'm at work right now, so I can't look. But if anyone has access to the literature and wants to look and see, I'm curious. Of course, the diagram in the book is so tiny it might have been my eyes.
!
I'll check tonight. I assume the little squares between 6/3 and 1/5 represent the clips?

Re: 352 firing order
The numbers on the diagram are not necessarily correct. Chances are, distributors on our trucks have been out before and probably not stabbed back into the stock position.
To be sure, pull the #1 spark plug out, put your thumb over the hole and slowly bump the motor around until the compression blows your thumb off, then the next time the timing mark lines up at "0", you will be at TDC on the compression stroke. Pull the dist. cap off and see where the rotor is pointing. That will be #1 terminal on the cap.

Re: 352 firing order
Thanks... but considering setting the timing is new to me, what do you mean by "bumping the motor around", and how do I do that with a thumb over the spark plug hole whilst NOT chopping my arm off on my fan?
And by "blowing my thumb off", I hope you mean that figurativley (like the air), and not that I'll lose my thumb...
I'm very much a novice at this. I DO have a timing light, but of course my first order of business is to ensure my plugs are connected to the right port on the dizzy. Is there an arrow or something on the rotor? Otherwise, how do I know which direction it's pointing?
Sorry if these questions sound dumb, but I've got no-one here (physically) to help me out...

Re: 352 firing order
If you have a remote starter button (or screw driver) you can use it on the starter solenoid by jumping the + battery terminal with the closest small terminal on the solenoid, or you can have someone do it with the ignition switch. By bumping around, I mean short bursts with the starter to rotate the engine a little at a time. Remove the coil wire to make sure the engine does not start. You will keep your thumb during this process
The rotor has a brass edge on the front, that is what sparks the dist. cap terminals.

THANKS! (and yay for the thumb!)
One thing I've never been clear on... where are the timing marks, and how do I know when they line up??

Down on the crank damper, at about 11 o'clock, you will see a pointer. The timing marks will be little lines on the damper. The longest line is usually "0" and will be numbered. You may need to get down there under the truck and clean the damper off to see the timing marks.
