Best replacement carb for 240/6?

Post by knipdlo »

Need a replacement carb- mine is not OE and has a bad powervalve..

I searched the forums and couldn't find a definitive answer... O'reilly's online shows a bunch of different versions for both auto and manual tranny with auto or manual choke..

I have an automatic and a manual choke..

Autozone has this: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalo ... entId=49-0

But I'm open for holleys etc...

Personally I prefer Carters over Holl*ys, but that's just my preference. Discussing X brand carb vs y brand carbs opens a can of worms like Ford Vs Chevy.

Autozone C666 is your only choice.
Carter YF

O-Rielly
Part Number:
1-177 Autolite 1101
1-286 Carter YF

If you switch to Automatic Choke you can use a 1900 series Holley

Pony Carbs Autolites

The 1100 is one of our specialty products. The day the carburetors were manufactured they had engineering problems, and in-driveability, those problems were hesitations and flat spots on acceleration, a general lack of power, and hard starting when hot. We correct all of those problems during the restoration by re-engineering the interior specifications of the carburetor.

Neither the YF or the 1904 will run any better on the 240 than the other. Pony's modified Autolite will feel a lot better on the bottom and on the mileage.

Replaced the carb today, with a unit from O'Reilly's its a Tomco reman, but unlike the Tomco that was on the truck, this one says Mfd by Carter for Motorcraft..

Also

Both of the carbs are different, as far as the hookups for the manual choke.. On the original carb the top choke butterfly seems to be disconnected? it opens and closes when I literally touch it, but the connecting rod is missing..

ALSO the carb that was in the truck, has the tradition 2bbl/4bbl external accelerator pump- that is bad and if there is any place I can find the replacement accelerator pump?

I believe what I've run into is that the truck has a reman Holley, and the reman I purchased is a Carter..

Go buy a carb kit for the holley. The missing choke rod could be made out of stiff wire.

Your older one had a part missing that would make it hard to start cold. but is designed to fall open under incoming air. The pivot is closer to the front of the choke plate than the back so it falls open and stays there.
