Hey fellas... In preparing to install new heater hoses and a heated carb spacer, I was just checking out these pictures for the "proper" connection points. But out of curiosity... what are those lines running just in front of the PCV valve, from around the carb down toward the exhaust manifold??

There is a U shaped passage cast into the exhaust manifold. 1 of those hoses connects to the air horn of the carb to draw fresh filtered air.
The other line in the picture is insulated and is connected to the choke assembly on the carb.
The choke assembly draws a vacuum thru the tubes heating the filtered air which in turn heats the bi-metallic spring in the choke assembly. When the spring is heated up, the choke opens. Pretty much an old school electric choke.

So I assume this was a post-1967 thing? I've never seen these hoses except on this truck and one other set of pictures I've seen. Or is this a 4bbl thing? I guess the trucks generally run OK without them??

You haven't seen them before because most of the time the lines are rusted, snapped off and/or discarded. No Ford trucks came from the factory with a 4 barrel carb.
