dipstick

I had the engine block freshened up a while back and now time to put it all back together. Anyway, there is about an inch of the dipstick tube sticking out of the block and thats it. The other part is on the shelf. It looks like there is an old weld that has broke that kept the tube together. If it is broken how do I remove the piece of tube from the block so I can replace it?

what kind of engine is it? on an fe it is just pushed down in the block and is held in place by a bolt through the front exhaust manifold. i'm not sure on other types of engines.

its a 360, but i have headers not manifolds.

if there is only an inch sticking out of the block just grab it a twist/tug up on it and it should come out.
