Fusion vs Carwash

Post by HOWDY69 »

A “friend” drove his 2008 Ford Fusion through a touchless car wash with the fuel door open and the fuel cap dangling from its little plastic line. The car wash has a bar that goes around the car shooting water horizontally along the sides of the car. The gas tank had just been topped off. After discovering his error he drove to the Ford dealer. They told him very little water could enter the tank because there was a lip and a vent hole inside the fill tube. He got the same story from the Firestone service center. The car has been driven 260 miles since without an issue. Do you think he should put a fuel additive in the tank just in case some water got in?

Personally, if it were my car, I would have pulled/drained the tank at the carwash. I dont think adding some additive would be a bad thing at all. You might even have him put a little isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol in it. It always worked for me when I got water in the tank of my Jeep.

Good luck.

I would just add the alcohol. Or as we call it in Canada "Gas line antifreeze"

meh, he's prolly good to go after 200+ miles. does the tank have a drain plug in the bottom? maybe some alcohol like has been suggested, but personally i wouldn't worry about it. whatever got into the tank is prolly equal to what is in commercial gas anyway.

That’s what the young feller at the Firestone said that there was water in gas anyway. I guess if it has alcohol in it, it could have some water dissolved in the alcohol. I can’t keep track of how they formulate gasoline in this crazy state.

I like me some 95%. It makes quick work of peeling old window tint off. :)
