360 performance mods and more

Post by soulcrushing71 »

Well I have a pretty good 360 outfitted with headers, performer intake, and 600 cfm edelbrock. Are there any other avenues I can take, or is it best to try and turn it into a 390 and if so how. Also I have a 70 swb donor truck, old owner told me it is a 390 sitting in it, but it is marked 352 on the block (same as my 360) are they all marked this way or have I been duped?

I'll take a shot at this. I'm surprised there are no responses with a bunch of :bdh: :bdh:or :hw: ?
The 352, 360 and 390 are all the same block. You have to measure the stroke to find out what engine(do a search, there is a TON written on this subject).
I also have a 360 and I read here that you can put a 428 cam in and make it a 410. Something to consider.

Correction.

You can't change the cam and increase the cubic inch displacement of an engine...

360, 390 and 410 are the same block, a 352 has a smaller bore although it is externally the same.

You can change the rotating assembly (crank, rods, pistons) and make a 360 a 390 or 410 relatively easily. There are also some stroker options. in the case of a 410 you will either have to use a 410/428 flywheel or flex plate or have the crank internally balanced with Mallory metal.

There have been myriad threads on this, spend a day in the search and you should have most of your questions answered.

They're the same as the 390. If you want to go fast, get a 390. If you want a workhorse rebuild the 360. The 360/390 blocks are the same. Same casting numbers, same bore ect. As mentioned, do a search and you'll find all the answers. This has been discussed countless times here in the forums.

Addendum: If you're looking to improve on a budget, ditch the Edelbrock carb and get a Holley HP or a Demon- huge difference in my experience. Also, ditch the Performer and get a Streetmaster of Performer RPM intake. You might just want to do a basic rebuild on the 390, and add your performance parts to it- would be a BIG upgrade.
