351w Swap into a 70F100 2WD

Post by fast65 »

What are the exhaust options?

Swap Motor is a nice low mile 72 with forged pistons, ported heads with larger valves and an RV cam.
I am considering 351W cast iron manifolds from either a mustang or LTD. I really do not want to cut the frame and will have the saginaw power steering to contend with. M5r2 will follow this swap...

The 302 currently in the truck has a blown head gasket, and I do not want to put money into the Truck heads with that low of compression.

my 67 has a galaxie 351w manifolds. with dual pipes coming off of htem. the frame didnt have to even be notched or cut.

Pretty sure the stock 302 manifolds are about the same as any 351w as far as flow goes. When I 1st put a 351w in my 71 I used the stock 302 manifolds. I had duals on the 302 so I used the pipes coming off the manifolds ut had to do a little cutting and moving to get them to clear the frame and cross member.
I used the stock 302 ones because of the right side going back instead of down if that makes any sense.

Try to use your stock 302 manifold for the pass side for better clearance and possibly a LTD or Fairlane driver side might work.

Yea 302 exhaust manifolds work well on 351w, I have 302 ford fairlane manifolds on mine.

Fordman, can you let me know what those casting numbers are on your manifolds? Would rather not recreate the wheel.
Thanks

Yes they will work. These 302 logs are very restrictive in dyno testing, and would rather use a known better flowing manifold in the 351W type from about 1970. Some dyno tests claim 40 hp loss going to the302 log style, but I doubt its that much.

I will probably run 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 pipes with these, and therefore want to take advantage of the improvement in flow.
Thanks
