351C Need help !

Post by papabug71 »

Guys, im at a turning point on my truck. I have a 351C 2v I would like to build & put in the truck & make it look factory.

I need to know what oiling mods to have done on this motor. So far the guys at the darkside have gave me minimal responses,( I only used them because they have a deticated 335 series forum) & after 3 weeks, im still awaiting aproval from the owner of 351Cleveland.net so I cant even post a question. What a bunch of BS.

Anyone ??

the 351 cleveland has a inadequate oiling system because of feeding the cam bearings first, then the main bearings causeing the 4&5 main to not get a good supply of oil at high RPM,to fix this run a oil line from the front where the sending unit screws in (install a tee for the sending unit) to the upper rear of the block behind the intake, theres a oil gallery plug there.running this line will help feed oil to the 4&5 main bearings.also the factory oil pump shaft is weak, buy a good shaft and a high-volume oil pump and you should be fine.I would keep it a two bbl. carb engine and find a autolite 2100 carburetor.on the left side of the carb body is a number like 1.14 or 1.23 and such, that number tells you the venturi size, larger the number bigger venturi. The 1.14 is 300CFM,1.23 is 356CFM and the big 2bbl is 1.33 at 424CFM. hope this helps you :D

Hazelnut, thanks for your reply. The sending unit is on the back of the block on the Cleveland motors. The plug is in front, down by the fuel pump. I have seen guys run the line to the rear & some guy on ebay even sells a kit. I have a stack of 2100's & 2150's, but I have an old 1.08 venturi autolite 4100 im really wanting to run on it.

I want to build this motor sooo bad. They make peppy motors with some basic mods !

The sending unit is on the back, been some years since i had a cleveland but i thought that was the best motor in the world back then.mine was a 70 2bbl in a 69 mach1 4 speed with 3.00 rear and run 15.17 in the 1/4, and got good gas milage. It was a sad day for me when it broke the oil pump shaft and spun some bearings.
