Did I hurt anything

Post by OldRedFord »

Yesterday I was out in the garage working on some of the brake components for my F100. Was walking past my work bench when I walked right into one of my D3 heads. (the back of the head that faces the firewall is on the floor) Knocked the head over. Still had the rocker arms loosely bolted on. Head hit the floor on the tops of the exaughst ports. (There was a bit of dust on the edge of each)

So yea, wonder if I hurt the head any. I don't see any obvious damage.

I wouldnt htink so. How far did they fall ? Did you have them on the work bench or just standing on the ground on end ?

Buddy pulled a chebby 350 out of a parts truck via a tree branch & a come a long. The come a long fell apart & the motor fell 5 or 6 feet to the ground. A new oil pan & it was in his truck, running like a top.

Yeah, I seriously doubt you hurt anything...those FE heads are pretty stout. I'd just make sure the exhaust flanges weren't damaged, but any minor damage could be cleaned up with a flat file in a couple minutes. Lay a steel flat-edge across the heads and make sure there's no more than .003" variance top-to-bottom, side-to-side, etc.

385 series heads. Just as stout as FE heads I am sure.

It was standing on the floor.

I can tell you my knee didn't fair so well tho. The stud for the intake manifold took a nice chunk of skin off.
