Quick 460 swap question..
Hey guys, I'm putting a 460/c6 combo in my 68 reg. cab short bed...
I already have the 460 engine stands installed in the 68 from the 79 that i pulled it out of..
Do I need to replace the trans crossmember too? I kept the crossmember from the '79 but don't want to replace the one that's in the '68 if I dont need to.
I also have a more technical question too if someone knows..
Will the splines on the tail shaft of the c6 fit the stock drive shaft splines out of my '68 which had a 302/c4 in it??
Oh, and does anyone know of any long tubes for the 460 that will put the exhaust ABOVE the trans cross member??
Thanks yall!!

Re: Quick 460 swap question..
I used the trans crossmember from my 70 when I did mine, just had to move it back a few inches. you may or may not have to, I think i used a car trans. not sure if your stands from the 79 will work. I think you need stand from a 73-77 but i could easily be wrong about that. some people have used hedman headers with luck, I needed something that would flow better so I got stuck having custom headers made. Im not sure if theres another company that makes headers to fit these above the crossmember

Ok, well thanks for the input.. from what I've researched I think the stands I put in will work, at least I hope they do.. they bolted right up, so we'll see.. I just want the right crossmember in before I drop the motor in.. and I thought the crossmember could stay in the same place.. hmm...

Re: Quick 460 swap question..
yours might stay in the same place. mine didnt and I cant remember why. some transmissions fit the same and some dont. i think it was because I had a car tranny. if you have the stands bolted in your probably fine, I may be confused with something else. someone else here will have more details im sure

I did have to move the cross member back on mine. Im not totally sure on the drive shaft, i ditched the carrier bearing and went with the one piece drive shaft. Im running Hedman headers on mine. They do run over the top of the cross member with no trouble.

The output shaft on the c6 is a lot bigger than the one on a c4. You will need to find a c6 slip yoke for the drive shaft.

the trans crossmember is probably pretty close to the same. but be prepared to use the other one if you have to. sometimes they just wont fit perfectly will all transmissions.

The transmission crossmember in my 72 is bout as far back as it can go. Its almost right before the frame starts to angle up.
