Re: flowmaster 40's
I haved used both, on numerous applications. 40's are loud, 50's are just a bit quieter, but not by much.
The Delta Flow Flowmasters are the best sounding ones I ever had out of all of them. Very mellow inside the cab, but nice & proud when you stomp on it. No mistaking a Flowmaster muffler.

Re: flowmaster 40's
I have the 40's behind my 429. I pretty much just got them because alot of people said they sound great, and they do sound pretty good. But I think im tired of them. Or I'm just tired of my very loud truck with thexhaust dumping under the cab with holes all over cab letting the sound in.

Here is a old video of my truck, after mounting the 40's.
Bad sound quality, truck is idling way high, but its better than nothing.

Re: flowmaster 40's
i had 40 series on a trans am i owned with a 400 in it...I like to hear my engine but they do boom a bit on the freeway... I think you can get those in the flowmaster dynamax 40 series (i think that is what its called) that cuts the resonance inside your vehicle but still gives the great sound on the outside.

Re: flowmaster 40's
I gave my 40's to a kid down the road and put on Hooker Aero chamber and amway happier with them. THe sound is better to me and many people that have heard it both ways. Doesn't sound like every other dodge and chevy running around town either

Re: flowmaster 40's
I had Super 40's on my truck. 2.25" in and out and they exited in front of the rear wheels.. It wasn't exactly what I expected, seemed to quiet to me. I ended up taking off the tail pipes, that did help some, but wasn't what I was looking for.
I ended up selling those at a garage sale and putting on some short glass packs, much better now. If I were to do it again I would buy regular 40's with a minimum 2.5" I/O.

I like the aero chambers too. I ran them on my old Dakota. They sound kinda like a flowmaster, but have a more refined sound.

Re: flowmaster 40's
Here is a sample from youtube. Its a stock 302 with super 40 mufflers. It sounded so good, I pm'd the guy & asked for a list of modifications. HE pm'd back & said it was a stock rebuild with hedders. Nice!!

Re: flowmaster 40's
I have 40's on mine, with Headman headers and 2.5 pipes, and a 2brl 390. I think it sounds great, loud but not too loud. It does drone on the highway, but I dont have overdrive so its sitting at about 3000-3300 rpm at 70mph.
I also have a single 40 on my Explorer, I had a 50 but decided to make it alittle louder, sounds good on a modified 6 cylinder as well.
